When life gives you lemon, make lemonade, and when you fall down 7 times, dust yourself and be on your feet 8 times with Allah everything is possible” Hadija Nganyi.

The simple looks of Madam Hadija Nganyi may deceive you to think that she is a push over. Humble and down to earth, the daughter of a former chief the late Mwalimu Juma is a battle hardened soldier when it comes to standing up for her rights and those of her people.

“Iam always easy going but my ubringing and faith as a muslim and a daughter of a former chief I cannot just sit and watch as my peoples rights are trumpled upon, I must stand up”!.

Odm nomination fiasco and my stolen victory.
In  2017 Hon Hadija Juma contested for women rep kakamega county on ODM ticket, she  won the party primaries but was denied  the certificate which was given to her opponent by Oparanya who is ODM deputy party leader.

Orange house had done its survey on the ground and had established  that she was a strong candidate but on realising that she had been played ,Orànge  women league led by their chairperson stood firm and demanded that she be nominated.

According to ODM party policy any Candidate who contested and performed well had to be nominated.

“I was asked now that I had contested on a county position would I be comfortable to be nominated as an MCA?, I a greed because I believed that would give me a platform to stay in -touch with the voters”

“Was shortlisted for nomination for county assemby but dark forces wont let me be”

“Upon  application for nomination, I was shortlisted for nomination but some unseen hands were busy plotting on how to frustrate me.These dirty ploy was by none other than my own deputy party leader and governor Hon Oparanya. Since no compelling reason were given for my disqualification, my name and that of others proceeded to Iebc for gazettement awaiting nomination depending on how the elections would go” added Hon Hadija.

Incoming Kakamega county woman rep listening attentively to her people.

” The more huddles I crossed, the more they erected.”
“As an Odm life member and a registered voter at Muslim primary school in Kakamega, I rested easy knowing well that I would be in the county assemby as an a tonement for my stolen victory.A las I was damn wrong!!.

Hon Hadija listening to wise words from an elder.

Two weeks after our  gazettement, we were called for swearing in, I was happy and availed myself.
While on the que registering I was  told that someone had contested my nomination and there is a court order stopping my nomination and swearing in.

According to the law I was due for swearing in since nobody had contested my nomination at the initial stages. Shock on me the person who had Contested was not even on  the nomination list ( the published list by IEBC) and according to the law there was no case so I consulted my lawyer and went to court I procured a stay to nullify the first court order, I succeeded  and was invited for induction for one week when I came back there was another court order which was against the law. On following up I realized that Governor oparanya was the one playing the game and had sponsored the person who was contesting my nomination so the long battle started. I got my lawyers, orange house send ODM party lawyer who defended me in court signed affidavit in support of my nomination, all ODM nomination committee signed  affidavits in support of my nomination and presented them to court actually the case was not even supposed to kick off but because Oparanya the Governor was behind it, it kicked off. He manipulated the judgement and my name was axed!!, everyone was shocked including ODM headquarters. I felt betrayed as a woman and a young democrat” narrates Hadija.

Hon Hadija Juma with fellow leaders visiting former minister and elder Hon Masinde.

” I dusted myself up and now I am stronger better and unbowed”
All such kind of  cases that were taken to court across the country were thrown out except mine. Judgment was done differently, I appealed but the same thing happened. Oparanya  using his agents manipulated the judgement in fact the judgement was edited in the morning the day it was to be read.

I lost .!! I went into depression, people demonstrated in my support, leaders held meetings with Oparanya concerning the same he never bulged. I lost not because I was unfit but simply because those a head of me blocked my path.

” I was down but not for long since then I picked myself up, dusted and now walking shoulder high.
Am going to be the next women MP 2022 kakamega county, I continue delivering what I promised my people, so help me God” concludes Hon Hadija Juma aka Mama Mwepesi
