When Gatina Ward MCA Hon. Mwalimu Kennedy Swaka launched his campaign, he made one promise clear — to open up Gatina through improved road networks. Today, that promise is turning into reality.

True to his word, Hon. Swaka has already overseen the rehabilitation of several key link roads across the ward, and his latest project — the Kibue Road rehabilitation — is set to transform mobility between Kongo and Gitanga road areas.

“Mobility is key to any nation’s growth,” said Hon. Swaka. “Under my stewardship, we have managed to rehabilitate Muthiora Road, while Salim Road is 80% complete — and we shall soon embark on the remaining stretch. Around Hope Centre, we’ve carpeted roads up to the well-known Kwa Tsuma and Mungai areas. Currently, we are rehabilitating Kibue Road, which links Kongo area to Gitanga Road.”
The Kibue Road project, now in full swing, is viewed as a lifeline for thousands of residents who have long struggled with impassable roads, especially during the rainy season. Once complete, it will drastically ease transport and boost local business.
“The completion of this vital road will bring immense relief to our people. This was a key campaign pledge, and I’m glad Governor Johnson Sakaja heard my calls and supported this project. I assure the people of Gatina that we shall deliver on every single promise we made,” he affirmed.
Hon. Swaka’s strong working relationship with Dagoretti North MP Hon. Beatrice Elachi and the Nairobi County Government has been instrumental in driving development within the ward. Together, they have not only upgraded roads but also enhanced security by installing streetlights along all major link routes — a move that has made it safer for traders and “mama mbogas” to operate even after dusk.
A Leader Within Reach
Beyond his visible development record, Hon. Swaka stands out for his accessibility and humility. Residents say he is among the few leaders who remain constantly available to listen to their concerns — whether at the ward office, community events, or informal gatherings.
His calm demeanor, open-door policy, and respect for all have earned him admiration across political and social divides, making him an ideal leader for the people of Gatina.
Education: The Great Equalizer
Beyond infrastructure, Hon. Swaka — fondly referred to as “Mwalimu” owing to his teaching background — has prioritized education as a cornerstone of his leadership.

“Even as we open up Gatina Ward, we are also empowering our children through education. We’ve streamlined the bursary process to ensure fairness, transparency, and inclusivity. Bright and needy students are given priority — regardless of political, religious, or ethnic background. Everyone in Gatina deserves equal opportunity,” he emphasized.
As 2027 draws nearer, the people of Gatina Ward have tangible evidence of transformation under their first-term MCA — from rehabilitated roads and streetlights to an equitable bursary distribution system.
And as he puts it in his signature mantra:
“Hapa Kazi Tu.”
