Kamba leaders rally behind Ngatia, Kwamboka Nairobi bid

Nairobi, Wednesday 2nd, 2022: Opinion leaders drawn from the Akamba community in Nairobi have today thrown their weight behind the candidature of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Richard Ngatia and Senator Beatrice Kwamboka as the next governor of Nairobi and Women Representative respectively as the campaigns for the August 9th general elections take shape.

Led by their chairman Gerald Gerald Kimeu and Dishon Mulinge “Swaleh” who is also running for the Embakasi south parliamentary seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, the leaders, who are coordinators from all the 17 constituencies and 85 wards in Nairobi, said that they had decided to back Ngatia since he has the best policies to ensure the economy of Nairobi is stabilised and Industries flourish.
Ngatia called on the leaders to spread the unity clarion call that has been propagated by the Raila Odinga led Azimio la Umoja bandwagon. “Raila has brought us to Azimio so that we can be united and walk together for the next five years in office,” Ngatia said. Challenging his competitor to show what they have done for Kenya and Nairobi, Ngatia said that as the president of the chamber of commerce and industry in Kenya and across 12 Lake Victoria basin countries of Kenya, Uganda Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Angola, Zambia Sudan, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Chamber has been able to help in the development of businesses and that is the experience that he is seeking to bring into the management of the Nairobi County government. “I am the president of KNCCI where we look at the welfare of all workers from the hawkers, Juakali, blue collar job employees to the industrial sector. We assist in giving business advice. I am also the president of 12 countries where we help stabilize businesses even in countries which are at times ravaged by conflict arising from minerals,” Ngatia said.“This business expertise and knowhow is what is required in Nairobi and that is what I want to offer as the governor,” he added.


Ngatia met leaders before meeting Mount Kenya leaders who are expected to endorse his bid ahead of the Kothbiro football tournament finals scheduled for next Sunday when he is expected to launch his campaigns. Speaking at Nairobi’s KIVI Hotel, the Akamba leaders said that they will rally behind Ngatia and Kwamboka to ensure they gets at the same time calling on Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join the Azimio la Umoja bandwagon. “As Kamba leaders in Nairobi, we endorse Ngatia and we also call on Kalonzo to join Azimio and work with the Kamba leaders in Nairobi. It is the only place he will get respect,” Mulinge said.“As we call on him (Kalonzo) to join us in Azimio, we also ask him to work with the Kamba leaders on the ground not imposing leaders on us,” he added.


The Nairobi women representative aspirant Senator Kwamboka called on the group to mobilize everyone within their reach to seek for votes for her and the other Azimio candidates noting that she represents the best ideas for a fresh Nairobi. “I ask all of you to vote for me as women rep in Nairobi to reclaim the glory of Nairobi. With Kwamboka, Ngatia as governor and Raila as our fifth President, Nairobi will be reclaimed back to glory,” Kwamboka said in her vote hunt pitch Yesterday.
Ngatia also met representatives of single mothers from 30 wards in Nairobi where he promised to assist them start business through issuance of loans and grants, even as he plans to meet representative from other wards next week.
