Hon. Stazo Omung’ala: The Quiet Political Force Steering Upper Savannah Forward
By Stella Mwami | Good Morning Kenya
In Nairobi’s dynamic Eastlands political scene, Hon. Stazo Omung’ala has emerged as a calm yet commanding force. The Upper Savannah MCA and Deputy Majority Whip at the Nairobi County Assembly is redefining grassroots leadership through tangible development, youth empowerment, and strategic alliances that stretch from the estates of Donholm to Kenya’s national stage.
Often described as measured and effective, Hon. Stazo is steadily climbing the political ladder—all while remaining firmly grounded in community service.
“Stazo walks slowly but carries a big stick,” a fellow ward rep said, quoting Chinua Achebe. “When he acts—it’s felt.”
Infrastructure That Speaks for Itself
One of Stazo’s standout achievements is his aggressive pursuit of road improvement in Upper Savannah. Residents of Donholm, Jacaranda, and Savanna Estate now move with greater ease thanks to newly graded and rehabilitated access roads.

He has also led from the front on public transport issues, calling out illegal PSV termini along Outering Road that have caused daily traffic nightmares. His motion in the County Assembly sparked investigations into rogue operators and lax enforcement.
“We must bring back sanity to our roads. Public space is not for private cartels,” he declared on the Assembly floor.
Investing in People: Women and Youth First
Stazo’s leadership goes beyond infrastructure. He has prioritized women-led households, youth skills development, and access to education for the underprivileged.

Through local initiatives, he has funded small businesses, disbursed bursaries, and organized mentorship programs to tackle youth unemployment and promote local talent.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams,” he often says, quoting Eleanor Roosevelt—a mantra he lives by as he uplifts the next generation.
Always Within Reach: The People’s MCA
Across Upper Savannah, Hon. Stazo is known as a leader who shows up. Whether it’s responding to family tragedies, medical emergencies, or community crises, he is hands-on, accessible, and compassionate.

“When our house burned down, he didn’t send representatives. Stazo came himself,” says Mama Achieng’ from Donholm. “That’s leadership we can trust.”
Football Roots, Political Wings
Before his political career, Stazo served as Secretary General of AFC Leopards, one of Kenya’s most iconic football clubs. His connection to the Ingwe faithful continues to earn him political capital across Nairobi and beyond.

He was recently spotted at the AFC Leopards Gala at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma, seated alongside national leaders including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, ODM Nairobi Chair George Aladwa, and Hon. Beatrice Elachi—a striking show of political camaraderie and respect.

A Voice for the Luhya Nation in Nairobi
Hon. Stazo’s rise also holds meaning for the Luhya community in Nairobi, where he is fast becoming a central figure. His strong ties with Luhya political heavyweights—Wetang’ula, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, Francis Atwoli, CS Wycliffe Oparanya and ODM Nairobi county Chief Hon George Aladwa—position him as a unifying force in the capital’s urban Luhya bloc.

What’s Next for Hon. Stazo?
With a development-driven legacy, people-first mindset, and deep national connections, Hon. Stazo Omung’ala is viewed by many as a leader destined for greater roles beyond the County Assembly.

His ability to deliver without drama and connect across party and tribal lines has made him one of Nairobi’s most respected rising leaders.
“He listens more than he talks, but when he talks, people pay attention,” noted one county colleague.
For Upper Savannah—and possibly the national stage—Stazo’s star is just beginning to shine its brightest.
