From the Union Frontlines to City Hall: Hon. Perpertua Okello’s Unfinished Business in Kileleshwa

:

From the fiery trenches of aviation unionism to the corridors of Nairobi’s County Assembly, Hon. Perpertua Okello’s political star continues to rise—undaunted, unwavering, and undeniably formidable. Her journey is not just one of political ambition, but of grit, vision, and loyalty to a cause she holds dear: the people, the party, and public service.

“If a man says yes strongly, his Chi will also say yes strongly,” goes an old saying—and for Hon. Perpertua, this couldn’t ring truer.

A Trailblazer in the Making

Perpertua made headlines in 2022 when she dared to take on political heavyweights for the ODM ticket in Kileleshwa ward. Her candidacy sent ripples through Nairobi’s political circles. Her energy, charisma, and grassroots mobilization prowess left even the most seasoned politicians reeling.

Challenging the likes of Hon. Robert Alai and Tollo was, to many, political suicide. But for Hon. Perpertua, it was a strategic move that proved her mettle. The heated primaries eventually saw her step down—not out of weakness, but as part of a well-negotiated compromise that secured her a nomination to the Nairobi County Assembly.

That nomination wasn’t a handout—it was a recognition of her sterling service to the party. As one of the brains behind Young Captains, a network of sharp, youthful ODM professionals, Perpertua played a pivotal role in injecting fresh energy into the Orange movement.

“Young Captains was—and still is—a textbook idea. It’s the foundation for the future of this party. In the coming elections, many products of this movement will take their rightful place in leadership,” she proudly says.

A Fearless Voice in City Hall

Today, Hon. Perpertua Mponjiwa Okello wears two powerful hats: Chairperson of the Nairobi County Assembly’s Education Committee and head of the Sectoral Committee on Children, Early Childhood Education, and Vocational Training. In these roles, she has carved a reputation as a clear-minded, articulate, and fearless legislator who doesn’t mince her words when it comes to accountability and oversight.

A shrewd mobilizer and policy enthusiast, Hon. Perpertua is often hailed as one of the most impactful nominated MCAs in the current assembly. Her trade unionist roots have given her a grounded understanding of Nairobi’s complex challenges, especially in education, infrastructure, and urban planning.

“My experience fighting for workers gave me the muscle to fight for city residents. I understand injustice when I see it—and I never look away,” she notes.

Eyes on Kileleshwa: The Battle Reignites

Despite her nomination, Hon. Perpertua never took her eyes off Kileleshwa. Her heart remains with the residents—those she believes deserve better representation, smarter planning, and a cleaner, safer environment.

“I have unfinished business in Kileleshwa. The good people of this ward deserve better, and I will be offering myself for election as their Member of County Assembly in 2027,” she boldly declares.

Her advocacy for better roads, improved service delivery, and progressive urban development has kept her deeply engaged with Kileleshwa’s issues—even from her county-wide vantage point.

Defender of the ODM Flame

For Hon. Perpertua, party loyalty isn’t just symbolic—it’s a duty. She’s a dyed-in-the-wool ODM loyalist who never hesitates to call out internal complacency. During last year’s grassroots elections, she took the fight to lukewarm party loyalists and “fence-sitters” attempting to hijack the process.

“You can’t pretend to be a party supporter yet vanish when the call to stand up for our ideals comes. We won’t allow a culture of opportunism,” she warned.

Her fierce defense of ODM ideals was so impactful that the party ordered a repeat of the Kileleshwa ward grassroots polls—now slated for August 11.

The Road Ahead

With her political footing now stronger than ever, many believe Perpertua has the ear of ODM’s top brass. Her eyes are firmly set on 2027—and on reclaiming Kileleshwa from what she terms “transactional politics.”

“ODM remains the best political outfit in Kenya. We must protect it from within so it can serve the country without compromise,” she asserts.

From aviation activism to County Assembly authority, Hon. Perpertua Okello isn’t just chasing a dream—she’s shaping the future, one bold step at a time.
