Nairobi 5th November 2023.

Education is the main driver of growth in all economies. There is no better way to emphasize this point than seeing those in leadership being at the forefront in ensuring high literacy levels are achieved.

Hon Kennedy Swaka the current  member of the Nairobi county assembly representing Gatina Ward is walking the education talk.

On 4th November 2023, Hon Swaka added another feather on his hat. The first time MCA will now be referred to as Hon Mwalimu Dr Kennedy Swaka.

After four years of studying at the Dominion  Missing Theological University @Nairobi, Hon Swaka was among the hundreds who graduated with honours in the field of leadership and governance.

According to Hon Swaka, his passion for education has been a long journey with a myriad of challenges.

I developed a passion to study and acquire knowledge from a very tender age. The journey  has  been with several challenges but having faith in God and the never say die spirit is what has enabled me reach this far” he said.

The acquisition of this doctoral degree now makes Hon Swaka among the few MCA in Kenya who can now proudly add the prefix DR to their names.

Mwalimu  Swaka now Dr Swaka is urguably one of the few leaders with a passion for education. Dr Swaka is the proprietor/Director of St Mary’s education center that boasts of a primary school and a secondary school in Dagoretti North area. Besides St Mary’s group of schools, Dr Swaka also runs a charitable organization which cares for needy children by ensuring that they acquire basic education

Speaking during the conferment of the degrees and diplomas to graduates, Dr Daniel Dele from Ghana the president of the Univeristy challenged them to illuminate knowledge as they go forth to serve humanity.

You cannot teach if you have not been taught. Even our Lord Jesus spent 3 solid years teaching his disciples. As you graduate apply the knowledge you have acquired to make this world a better place than you found it” Dr Dele said.

At hand to also challenge those who had just graduated was Dr Emmanuel  Esilaba who specifically challenged the degree holders to always serve with humility.

Quoting  an example from what he called village Professors and doctors, Dr Esilaba said.

Knowledge without wisdom is vanity. I know of several professors of high repute in my village who will teach you in a lecture room the dangers of alcohol and bhang but you will see them staggering home drunk as they smoke. I want you to be a different breed that will illuminate knowledge ” Esilaba said.

Dr Esilaba particularly asked Dr Swaka  to keep serving his constituents with utmost zeal knowing very well that leadership was a higher calling from God almighty.

Hundreds of Gatina ward residents thronged the venue to celebrate this milestone withtheir area MCA.
