Nyamira boda boda riders beat up 3 policemen and set up their motorbike for demanding bribes

Three police officers attached to the Kibuse ASTU camp in Nyamira county are nursing serious injuries at the Ndanai sub-county Hospital in Bomet after they were beaten up by boda boda guys.

The three are alleged to have been caught collecting bribes and harassing boda-boda operators in the area.

The police officers identified as Vincent Rugut, Hussein Dribo and Jeremia Ndolo were cornered by members of the public at around 7pm and pelted with stones.

A video seen shows a crowd descending on three people believed to be the police officers with kicks and blows.

They were rescued from a possible lynching by several officers from Bomet who were on patrol.

Witnesses say the officers fired into the air repeatedly to disperse the crowd baying for the cop’s blood.

A motorcycle of registration number KMFC 390 that the officers were using was also set ablaze during the mayhem.

Police oficers enforcing curfew are friendly and familiar to us, these one’s were ruthless and arrogant which promted us to suspect they were not police officers, we gave them a good beating, one tried to plead with the crowd while talking in Kalenjin but no one heard him”. Said Nelson bett, a boda boda operator at Sotik.

Bomet county commandant Naomi Ichami said investigation into the matter is underway.
