ODM’s Orange flame in Dagoretti North burns brighter under Ogeto.

When the ODM Party announced repeat elections in Kileleshwa Ward and other parts of the country, many thought it was just another internal exercise. But in Dagoretti North, party leaders saw it as a golden chance to redefine future political engagement.

Nicknamed “Raila’s last-born son” for his youthfulness and modest stature, Hon. Moses Ogeto — ODM Dagoretti North chairman, Nairobi County Assembly Majority Whip, and Kilimani Ward MCA — has become a political force to watch.

A master mobiliser, savvy negotiator, and fiery debater, Ogeto has found a trusted political partner in nominated MCA Hon. Perpertua Mpojiwa, fondly called Perps. Alongside constituency SG Sammy Nyaranga, a dyed-in-the-wool ODM loyalist, the trio has been quietly rebuilding ODM’s grassroots machinery in Dagoretti North — a development that surely brings a smile to Raila Odinga’s face.

During last year’s grassroots polls, Ogeto and Perps were the most sought-after party leaders across the constituency’s five wards. Their coordination has kept the orange flame burning brightly.

Historically, Dagoretti North has been treated as “home ground” by Raila. In 2022, he personally handed Hon. Beatrice Elachi a direct ODM ticket, sidestepping divisive primaries that could have handed UDA an opening. That brand of tactical thinking is now inspiring Ogeto and Perps to push for stronger party structures — from polling centres up to the constituency level.

“ODM values internal democracy. But without loyalty to the party’s ideals and the courage to serve beyond comfort zones, leadership becomes a mirage,” says Patrick Sabula, a long-time party loyalist.

With ODM’s constituency-level elections set for August 15, local chatter has shifted to the looming political face-off between Hon. Elachi and Hon. Ogeto.

Fresh from his allies’ triumph in Kileleshwa, Ogeto is now being quietly tipped for the Dagoretti North MP seat. With a proven electoral track record and strong political goodwill, many believe he will easily retain the constituency chairmanship — and possibly set his sights even higher.
All eyes now turn to 15 August 2025, when ODM holds its constituency elections and Ogeto goes head-to-head with incumbent MP Hon. Beatrice Elachi.
Who will carry the day?

A Strategist Who Prefers Action Over Argument

Ogeto’s rise has been guided by a personal mantra borrowed from Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power: “Demonstrate results instead of debating them.” This action-first style has struck a chord with Dagoretti North voters.

Entering politics straight from university, Ogeto has walked the fine line between ethnic interests and party loyalty. A son of the larger Gusii community, he still threw his full weight behind ODM’s MP candidate in the last election — refusing to back UDA’s Mwalimu Oyongo or independent candidate Elijah Oenga despite pressure from both camps. This defiance cemented his appeal to both “tribeless” youth and seasoned ODM loyalists.

Fresh off his allies’ victory in Kileleshwa, Ogeto is now being quietly touted for the Dagoretti North MP seat. Given his past electoral record and strong goodwill, few doubt he will retain the constituency chairmanship — and perhaps position himself for something bigger.
