Reinstate Prof. Amukowa Anangwe Now — Academia Demands Justice

By Mwalimu Amunga

Justice Has Spoken. Now Let Justice Be Done.

A major milestone in the pursuit of justice and fairness has been reached today. Professor Amukowa Anangwe, a respected academic, former Cabinet Minister, and public intellectual, has been officially cleared of all graft-related allegations after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) formally withdrew the Ksh 32.4 million corruption case that had clouded his name for months.

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court terminated the case under Section 87(a) of the Criminal Procedure Code. The court further ordered the immediate release of Prof. Anangwe’s passport and the refund of his Ksh 1 million cash bail. No further charges are pending.

This decisive legal development restores Prof. Anangwe’s full legal and professional standing—he is now entirely cleared and eligible to resume public and academic leadership roles.

“I welcome today’s decision with a clear conscience and a deep sense of relief. I have always maintained my innocence, and I am grateful that due process has run its course. I now look forward to continuing my contribution to national development and academic excellence,”
Prof. Amukowa Anangwe

A Reputation Built on Integrity and Service

For many within Kenya’s academic and public service spaces, this moment is not only a vindication of Prof. Anangwe’s character but a reminder of his longstanding service to the nation. He has held key leadership roles — as a legislator, Cabinet Minister, and most recently, as Chairperson of the University of Nairobi Council, where his tenure was marked by vision, reform, and an unwavering commitment to academic standards.

It is now imperative for the University of Nairobi and the Ministry of Education to act decisively:
Reinstate Prof. Amukowa Anangwe.

To withhold reinstatement despite the court’s clearance is not only unjust — it flies in the face of the rule of law. Our institutions must not perpetuate punishment after acquittal. That is injustice. That is impunity.

Call to Action: Do the Right Thing

If we are a country that upholds fairness, justice, and due process, then we must not hesitate. Reinstating Prof. Anangwe is not just a professional courtesy — it is a moral obligation. It is a signal to the academic community and the nation that truth matters, and that we stand by our values even after the storm has passed.

Justice delayed is justice denied.
It’s time to give Prof. Amukowa Anangwe his job back.
