Speaking yesterday, the Nairobi county Chief Officer for Youth, Sports, and talent Mr Oscar Igaida revealed that  the county government has set aside funds to a tune of  688 Million that will see the country’s oldest sports stadium refurbished and renamed to Joe Kadenge stadium.

The Nairobi county government under the leadership of governor Sakaja has rolled out an ambitious programme that will see sports facilities in the county improved in a bid to give our sportsmen and women space to nurture their God given talents. Tendering process for Nairobi’s City stadium which will henceforth be known as Joe Kadenge Stadium is already done with and we expect work to begin in the next 10 days. Once completed, the running turf shall no longer be there thus leaving City stadium to be an only soccer ground and perhaps high level Rugby matches considering that we dont have a rugby facility within the city other than the RFU grounds at Impala along Ngong road. The first phase of refurbishing city stadium will cost 95 Million ” said Mr Igaida

“Once we are done with raising the standards of City stadium which will be renamed to Joe Kadenge Stadium, we expect our local teams like Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz to use the facility in hosting their international matches. Besides City Stadium, the county government has also resolved the stalemate that was there between Dandora stadium and EACC and works in that facility have started in earnest and very soon Dandora Stadium shall be available for use. Other sports facilities like Uhuru in Makadara and Woodley Stadium are also underway and will be completed soonest. All this is inline with Governor Sakaja’s manifesto of helping nurture talent by ensuring sports facilities are available” concluded Mr Igaida
