High cost of electricity can break marriages,! Make electricity free demands Babu Owino.

Members of parliament debate cost of power in Kenya.

Today members of parliament united over the cost of electricity in the country. Embakasi east MP Hon Babu Owino even said that electricity should indeed be free.

MP Machakos County Joyce Kamene: KPLC is no longer interested in serving citizens, it has just become a rotten den where cartels have taken control. How on earth does KPLC buy power from KenGen at Sh.5 and sell it at Sh.23

Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo: Gov’t needs to put its foot down to restructure Kenya Power so that it meets the needs of citizenry. For the last 4 years KPLC has had 4 different managing directors, that should tell us something.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo: The cost of electricity, fuel and unga needs to be lowered so next Monday when we’re on the streets please join us because these are some of the costs that we need to come down

Babu Owino: Poor management and especially corruption is what has killed KPLC… Cost of electricity must not only be reduced in this country, but should also be provided for free

Kirinyaga MP Jane Njeri: With inflation in this country currently at 9.1%, increase in electricity cost will only have an upsurge in the cost of services and commodities.

As a country we need to invest in cheaper energy alternatives, we’re still relying on hydroelectricity which is the most expensive. We also need to introduce other players in the market so as to bring down the cost of electricity – Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi

Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka: The cartels have devised a way to ensure we don’t succeed in evacuating cheap power to Kenyans
