Anna Makawa or Simply Senje Mwenyewe’ as she is fondly called, is a youthful politician aiming to become the next Kabiro ward MCA. The seat is currently held by ODMs Hon Clarence Munga who is doing his second term. Besides Senje, over 15 candidates in different parties have declared their interests.
Over the weekend during the tour by Deputy president William Ruto in Dagoretti North, the Kabiro ward MCA aspirant charmed the crowd with her speeches during several stop overs in Dagoretti North leaving both the crowd and the Deputy president asking for more.
Her mobilization skills and stage presence awed the chief hustler who could only say, “Salaala! huyu mungwana si anaweza”. as chants of Senje! Senje! Senje! rent the air.
“Sisi tumechoka na siasa za ukabila, roundi hii tunataka kila mtu awe on board, Mama mboga, mtu wa mkokoteni, mtu wa kinyozi sote tujiunge pamoja kwa hii bottom up economic model tusonge mbele pamoja”
But who is Anna Makawa aka Senje mwenyewe?
“I am a mother, a loving wife a business woman but above all a Kenyan citizen with a heart to serve my people. Being a born again Christian, Iam alive to the fact that our purpose on this planet is to bring about positive change, something I have been doing and intend to do even more once elected as Kabiro Ward MCA”
This are the opening remarks that she greets us with as she pours out her infectious smile.
Senje is both tough and humble. Those who have taken her gentleness for a weakness will be in for a rude shock in case they try to rub her the wrong way.
Her ability to simlessly relate to both the mighty and the low class paints a picture of a resolute woman of character ready to serve. But what is the teaching behind this great soul?

“I was born here in Kabiro to civil servants parents, from an early stage in life I learnt that the hallmark of a good life is to share and make others happy especially the less fortunate in our society. Many a times families would come to our house and my parents would share the little they had. I think that is how the seeds to servanthood and my desire to bring about change were planted” she said.
But why did you call yourself Senje?
“Actually my reall names are Anna Robai Makawa, I did not choose to call myself Senje but rather ut is my fans who gave me the name Senje Mwenyewe and I graciously accepted it. I believe this was due to my several visits and just like a good aunt(Senje is luhya for Aunt) I would leave behind goodies hence Senje Mwenyewe. But again you know Sauti Soul sang about Senje so the youthful fans call me senje to show their love for me” Senje responds amid laughter.
But Why UDA party?
Senje Mwenyewe further opens up on her choice to contest on a UDA party.

“The bottom up economic model is a game changer, this is what is going to bridge the gap between the haves and the have nots. For me it was so natural to buy into this narrative since emancipating our people from poverty that has been brought about by shackles of tribalism that is tailored towards perpertuating some people in power is what we need to change. UDA under the able leadership if Dr William Ruto has changed the conversation and as a young Kenyan I must take my rightful position and champion for this desired change” adds Senje Mwenyewe.
But Is Senje the right candidate for Kabiro ward? we posed.
“Iam a tried and tested servant, I have in sticking to the bottom up model helped my people in Kabiro either start up small scale business ventures like salons, eateries, boosted those in boda boda industry besides engaging our mama mbogas who are also doing well through their table banking just to name but a few. All these have been singlehandly funded through my Senje Foundation.

I believe that if we have managed to do this,how much more can we achieve while in a position of influence with resources at our disposal?. In a nutshell, Senje Mwenyewe is ready for the task and Iam the best for the job” continued Senje.
“The future is very promising, God has been faithful and I know He will enable us complete the good work he started in us.
What does the future hold?
Soon I will be launching the third phase where over 50 women will be facilitated to either start small scale business or boost their existing ventures. This is a practical way of showing the people that bottom up can really work and transform lives” concludes Anna Makawa aka Senje Mwenyewe.
