Former Afc leopards striker Bonface Ambani the current all time KPL top scorer with 26 goals is holding his breath as Kariobangi Shark’s marksman Eric Kapaito marches forth.
Well Afc leopards last won the league title in 1998 and Bonface Ambani who was plucked out of Rivatex played a pivotal role in achieving this fete before moving to Oserian where he replicated his league winning forms.
From that time, no other Kenyan player in the league has tried to erase Ambani’s record.
However Red Hot Kariobangi striker Erik Kapaito is daring to erase it, will he manage considering that there are only 6 matches left?
Kapaito is only 4 goals shy of Ambani’s record of 26 goals .

“My focus is not on emerging as the top scorer, my aim is just but to help my team do better by winning matches” the striker said.
The former Talanta fc player has exuded confidence ahead if their match against KCB whom they trail on the log by 7 points.
Kapaito was the league’s top scorer in 2018 with 16 goals.
Upon emerging as top scorer in 2018 season, Kapaito set a personal target of scoring over 16 goals which he has since surpassed.
While challenging local strikers to rise to the occasion, former international turned coach and football pundit, Ambani had pledged to reward any striker who would smash his recird if 26 goals.
‘Football has changed, with better conditions and technology, I dont expect my record to still be standing. I have travelled extensively in my footballing career in India, Tanzania etc and the amount of worj strikers put in is always seen by their goals. It is about time lical strikers rose to the occasion’ Ambani said.
I wish Kapaito well, he should remain focused and keep banging in goals, that is a hallmark of a striker” Ambani said.
Former Harambee Stars ace Boniface Ambani in challenging Kenya Premier League strikers to pull up their socks and break his long-standing record of 26 goals scored in a single season.

Ambani shares the feat with ex-Gor Mahia great, Maurice ‘Sonyi’ Ochieng, who equally plundered 26 goals in the historic 1976 season when K’Ogalo won the league title unbeaten for the first time, under Allan Thigo, as player-coach.
For Ambani, the feat was attained in 2006 while turning out for Tusker and today, no player has come close to challenging the towering record.
In recent times, former Tusker and AFC Leopards striker Allan Wanga is the only only other player who came close to smashing this record by scoring 23 goals incidentally while at Tusker just like Ambani.
Ambani the goal poacher

During his heydays, Ambani won four golden boot awards with different clubs – in 2002 at Oserian(16 goals) , 2005 (Kenya Pipeline 18 goals),2006 with Tusker before crossing the border to Tanzania where he attained a similar feat with Yanga SC banging 24goals thus becoming a Yanga legend.
