The race for Vihiga county senatorship takes shape as candidates criss cross the vast county of Vihiga marketing their bids.
Nominated Mp Hon Godfrey Osotsi and Nandi county Mca Hon Jackson Swadi Swadi have clearly come forth to make their intentions known.
Whereas Hon Osotsi is an ANC member of parliament serving his first term, Hon Swadi is doing his fourth term of service as a member of the county assembly having served his first two as a councilor in Nairobi before shifting base to Nandi county where he was easily elected.
His choice of gunning for Vihiga senatorship has led to mixed reactions on the ground.
” We have no problem with our brother Hon Swadi’s democratic right of contesting for any seat in the republic of Kenya but all we are requesting of him is to kindly consider expanding our spheres to Nandi by going for Nandi senate seat. We have enough manpower who truly understand the terrain in Vihiga and can ably represent us” a voter said.
As all indicators point to the fact that the current senator Hon Munyasia Khaniri could be eyeing the governorship, there has been a rush to find a better replacement for him.
Hon Osotsi has place himself strategically to replace the current holder. His excursions in Vihiga have endeared him to so many voters and pundits opine that should elections hold now, Osotsi could easily clinch the seat.
Throughout his term, Hon Osotsi has positioned himself as a true defender of the people of Vihiga both those in the county and in the diaspora.
The Hon member has constantly appeared on tv and radio talk shows to argue the case of the people of Vihiga.
Sometimes back, skirmishes broke in Nandi county and Hon Osotsi with fellow members of parliament flew to the scene and petitioned the government to ensure the matter amicably ends. This act of service endears him to the masses hence his electability.
Mr. Osotsi has been on the frontline traversing Vihiga county helping in youth empowerment, women groups, youth groups, and helping lend a hand in refurbishing schools in the area. Budaywa primary school, Chavogere primary school, Luanda Holy spirit church, and Manyatta Boda Boda Sacco just to name but a few.
”Osotsi being a native of this county understands better the pertinent needs of this county. We all saw during the revenue allocation impasse at the senate, although not a senator, he candidly gave his views which were for the benefit of our people. While serving as a member of the national assembly, Osotsi has presented several petitions which touch on the interest of the good people of Vihiga. He candidly argued the case of our people who moved to Nandi county over 30yrs ago and are yet to be issued with title deeds. We, therefore, have faith that he is the right guy to take over from Hon Khaniri who is moving to a new position” Chris Amadi from Mbale said.
