Stealing billions will make you famous but stealing chicken will lead you to an early grave.
Police in Awendo, Migori County are investigating an incident where a 20-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his in-laws for allegedly stealing their chicken.
Austin Madawa is said to have broken into the home of one of his relatives in Kogelo village at 3am on Wednesday and stolen the bird but was discovered before he could escape.
Area chief Mr Kenneth Nyawata narrated that a boy who lives with the elderly person that the deceased attempted to steal from woke up suddenly and found him in the house , wrestled him to the ground before raising alarm for help.
Family members then joined in and they all landed on him with blows and kicks, oblivious of the fact that he was one of their relatives since it was still dark.
Upon realizing his identity, they rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Police officers in the area have since called for calm as they begin investigations into the incident.
