A patient Drives off in an Ambulance from Moi Teaching And Referral Hospital Hospital

A patient drove away in Moi hospital ambulance before colliding with a truck a few meters away.

The  ambulance in queation had pulled over at the emergency entrance of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH)-Eldoret, and as medics wheeled the patient into the emergency room, a man who was pensively waiting by jumped in and drove off in a speed that only rally drivers could imagine.

Security officers at MTRH chased the ambulance “thief” as the residents were left reeling in shock.

Paul Songok, the ambulance driver told us that the vehicle being diesel-powered, its engine could not be switched off immediately after being driven at a high speed and so he had left it idling for a few minutes to cool off before switching the engine off.

“This man was standing just a few meters from where i had packed it when the guy jumped in, locked all doors and took off. I have never seen such a steady driver how he manouveres here at that speed without hitting anything left many in awe” Paul Sangok said.

The man drove through Eldoret town before and headed towards Iten-Eldoret road before being involved in an accident with a fuel tanker and a matatu about 12 kilometres away at a place known as Marura.

It was later revealed that the man had been brought to hospital for some mental check ups.
Central police station is investigating further. Luckly the “ambulance thief and the track driver are in stable condition after sustaining minor injuries
