CHAN2024 DIARIES: Over 60 Match Officials Arrive in Kenya as CAF Sets Up Nairobi Command Centre

By Julius Anyula, Sports Reporter – Good Morning Kenya News
The stage is truly set for the much-anticipated TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, with a total of 68 elite match officials drawn from over 30 CAF Member Associations arriving in Kenya to begin pre-tournament preparations.
The delegation, comprising 26 referees, 26 assistant referees, and 18 Video Match Officials (VMOs), gathered today for their official Pre-Tournament Training held at the Police Sacco Grounds in Nairobi. The exercise is part of CAF’s broader commitment to ensuring world-class officiating throughout the regional tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zanzibar.
Among the standout names is Kenya’s own Nyagrowa Dickens Mimisa, who will serve as a centre referee. Mimisa, fresh from officiating at the AFCON U20 tournament in Cairo, is leading the Kenyan contingent with pride and poise. (See photo below.)
Nairobi: CAF’s Central Hub for CHAN 2024
In a significant development, CAF has designated Nairobi as the official command centre for all CHAN 2024 match officials. All referees and VMOs will be based at The Glee Hotel in Nairobi, regardless of where their assigned matches take place — whether in Kampala, Dar es Salaam, or Zanzibar.
Officials will be required to report back to Kenya after every assignment, making Nairobi the heartbeat of the officiating structure for this year’s tournament.
