Highway secondary school soccer team in Nairobi is set to fly to Romania. This follows a successful tournament two month ago where the young lads emerged as winners in an EU sponsored tournament.
At hand to hand them the county flag were the Nairobi county governor Hon Johnstone Sakaja, C.E.C Sports Hon Mulama Brian and the chief officer incharge Mr Oscar Igaida.

During the event held at the Nairobi county hall, Governor Sakaja challenged the lads to strive for excellence in their academics and sports. The governor guaranteed them of total support besides ensuring that their sports ground is kept safe from the notorious city land grabbers.
“I will be engaging the Ministry of Education to guarantee that the land where the school’s football pitch is located is safe. Don’t worry, it will not be grabbed,” Sakaja said.
In attendance was the European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger, who congratulated the team on their success and encouraged them to enjoy their trip to Romania.
“We are proud of you. This is a maiden trip for you to Romania. Enjoy it, and as you do so, understand that we are happy with your performance as national football champions,” Geiger said.
Youths and Talent CEC Brian Mulama also expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments and pledged the county’s continued support.
“Be assured that we have you in our hearts. We are proud of you and your performance, and that is why today we have this meeting with the Governor,” Mulama stated.
On his part Youths and Talent Chief Officer, Oscar Igaida, urged the players to be exemplary ambassadors for Kenya as they prepare to represent the country in Mbale, Uganda, after their Romanian tour.
“As you go to Romania, I want to challenge you to be bold and express yourselves on the pitch. Hard word and discipline will take you places. You must follow in the footsteps of great soccer stars like Mariga formerly of Inter Milan and Wanyama who featured for Tottenham FC in the EPL. While there be aware that scouts will be on the look out for exceptional talents which you display” Igaida said.
After the event, both the C.E.C and the chief officer proceeded to Woodley stadium in Kibra where they inspected work on the ongoing Joseph Kangethe stadium.

The stadium came under acute vandalism from irate youths who were protesting the denied access to the facility due to the ongoing works.
