Charles Okumu alias Daddy: The Face of ODM’s Youth Agenda in Nairobi

When discussions around Nairobi County ODM politics arise—particularly on matters involving youth engagement—the name Charles Okumu, better known by his popular aka Daddy, consistently surfaces.

Born into a family steeped in activism, Daddy’s entry into politics was almost by default. He credits his mother, a fearless defender of human rights and a vocal critic of the one-party regime, for shaping his ideological foundation.

“My mother was not only an activist but also a staunch advocate for democracy. She stood firm against the one-party dictatorship and played her part in the struggle for multi-party democracy. From her, I honed my passion for human rights, my uncompromising defense of freedoms, and my resolve to safeguard the gains made. For me, it was only natural to join ODM—the party that has fought relentlessly for the democratic space we enjoy today. It was also natural to align with my party leader RT Hon Raila Amollo Odinga whose influence has been central to my political journey,” notes Daddy.

Deep Roots in Dagoretti North

Having been born and raised in Dagoretti North, Daddy’s political involvement began at the grassroots level. His rise within ODM’s structures saw him rise through ward leadership positions to constituency-level engagements.

“Dagoretti North is unique. I’ve had the privilege of serving at various levels of ODM leadership here, and perhaps my most formative political experience was working closely with Governor Simba Arati, our former MP and now Deputy Party Leader. He has been a mentor not just to me, but to countless young leaders. As I now step forward for the county youth leadership role, I am convinced I have the capacity and vision to guide ODM’s youth wing into its next chapter as the party marks two decades of existence,” explains Daddy.

Backing from ODM’s Heavyweights

Daddy’s bid for Nairobi County Youth Leader has already generated enthusiasm, especially within Dagoretti North, his political base. His strong rapport with ODM’s senior figures further underscores his rising profile. Over the past weekend, Nairobi ODM County Chair, Hon. George Aladwa, visited Daddy at his residence in Kabiro Ward—a gesture widely interpreted as an endorsement of confidence from the party hierarchy.

A Visionary Youth Leader

In a city defined by both ambition and adversity, Daddy positions himself as a pragmatic yet inspiring leader. His approach emphasizes tangible impact over empty rhetoric.

“Leadership is not about empty promises; it is about delivering results that resonate with the realities of our young people. Nairobi’s youth deserve a leader who listens, understands, and delivers. I represent a new style of leadership—approachable, bold, and focused on creating lasting opportunities,” he asserts.

Beyond the Youth Seat to Kabiro?

While his immediate focus remains on securing the Nairobi County Youth Leader seat, speculation is rife that Daddy could be eyeing a more expansive political future. Word in local political circles suggests a possible contest for the Kabiro Ward MCA seat in 2027, setting the stage for a high-stakes duel with the incumbent, Hon. Munga. With both contenders being homegrown, the clash would undoubtedly capture the ward’s political imagination.

For now, however, Daddy remains focused on the ODM youth leadership race.

“By God’s grace, victory is inevitable. I have traversed all 17 constituencies, and the reception has been overwhelming. The love and support point to one thing—I am ready to serve my party and my city as Nairobi County Youth Leader,” says Daddy confidently.

Call to Action

Charles Daddy Okumu represents the spirit of a new generation—fearless, grounded, and determined to uplift Nairobi’s youth. His candidacy is more than an election; it is a movement to empower young people, protect hard-won freedoms, and shape a brighter future for the city.

The choice is clear. Nairobi’s youth deserve a leader who carries their voice to the corridors of power. A leader who is tested, trusted, and ready.
