The inter-county football under 19 tournament shall feature both male and female soccer
“The launch of the inter-county football under 19 tournament is a step in the right direction. Soccer is a lucrative business in the modern world and giving our youths the platform to showcase what they can do does not only expose them to greener pastures but will also keep our youth engaged both as players and fans thus lowering the high crime and other social deviants behaviours” Igaida said.
On his part the sports CS Hon Ababu Namwamba promised the government’s total support in ensuring that sports and especially the under 19 inter-county soccer tournament flourishes.
“We saw during the height of covid, the uk government returning football in the midst of a pandemic, even though they knew they weren’t going to allow people in the stadiums. This is because football is a huge part of its economy. The conomy has commercialized and monetized foootball to a point where it is a key driver of the economy. This is what we want to do here in Kenya and we are going to do it through our #TalantaHela initiative,” noted CS
The last 16 teams from 16Counties will be hosted in Nairobi from 1st December 2023 and finals will be on 12thDec 2023.
