Sports Cs Amina read the riot act to Nick Mwendwa over running of the league

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has issued a stern warning to Nick Mwendwa and Kpl over league stalemate. Amina has said that her ministry may be forced to step in if there is no cessation of hostilities between Football Kenya Federation and Kenyan Premier League who are locked in a bitter war of words over the top-tier league, KPL following the awarding of Gor Mahia the trophy a move that never went on well with other Kpl clubs.

A bitter war of words erupted between the two entities two weeks ago when FKF, through its president Nick Mwendwa, on April 30 unilaterally ended the league amid Covid-19 pandemic, a move that did not go down well with the league management body.

To start it off was Homeboyz chair who accused Mwendwa of ending the league to save his team Kariobangis Sharks from relegation. Before long Dan Shikanda of Afc leopards also levelled accusations on FKF and on Mwendwa in particular accusing him of running Fkf like a private entity.

To make matters worse, KPL CEO Jack Oguda wrote to Confederations of African Football (CAF) on Thursday protesting the directive issued by FKF which declared Gor Mahia as KPL champions.

“In matters pertaining leagues of our various federations we can’t interfere with running of their activities. That one is solely for the clubs and federations. We however advocate for consultations among the parties. For now, they (FKF and KPL) have time to resolve their issue but if they don’t, we will be forced to take action,” said Amina.

The Cs when asked of the impending Fifa ban over 109 M owed to Amrouche she said “I do not want to comment on the matter which is currently in court. All I can say is that we wait for the ruling,” she said.

On the roumers on the mismanagement of funds during caf tour she said,
“It (audit report) will be out soon and that is why I can’t say anything at the moment. When the report is out it will be made public and whoever will be found guilty will face the law,” she explained
