Covid 19 pandemic has caused lots of suffering in Kenya. The worst hit are those in low income areas. If you live in Kawangware, Kibera, Kariobangi or Mukuru Kwa Njenga, kneel down and seek divine interventions.Take a case like what happened to one lady who works as a house help in Westlands.

To protect her identity, we shall call her Rossie. Rossie stays in the sprawling Kawangware slums. She stays alone with her 3year old daughter. Being a single lady, she has to fend for her family by seeking employment in the upmarket areas of Westlands.Rossie works for an Indian family in Westlands.

While on duty, Rossie noticed that a son to the boss was rounded up and and taken for a covid 19 test. Sad enough the results turned positive.Other than the boss tell all her staff including Rossie to take a covid 19 test, he instead instructs her and the gateman to go home and never to return to work until they get a covid 19 free certificate.

As we file this story, both Rossie and the gate man are freely roaming the slums of Kawangware. In the slum set up where bathrooms, water taps, and village shops are being used communally, who will save the poor from the rich?Slum people worry more of having food and shelter and covid 19 becomes secondary.
