The Nairobi County assembly is mourning yet again after one of its members Hon Mellab Lumalla passed on early this morning while undergoing treatment is India.
Hon Mellab an ODM nominated member was also the party’s deputy minority whip.
While eulogising her, fellow nominated member Hon Carolyne Mayunzu termed the loss of Mellab a big blow to the ODM party and the people of Nairobi.
“Mellab was a friend a sister who would always give you wise counsel. When I ran for Nairobi women rep in 2017, Mellab encouraged me to soldier on and we both landed nominations slots at the County assembly. She was a party diehard and Raila’s number one soldier. Fare thee well my sister” Mayunzu said.

Sad to learn that Hon Melab Mellaquez Lumabele is no more. Melab was ODM nominated MCA Nairobi county. I first met her about 20 years ago in AFC Leopards football activities. In 2011, I starts my campaigns in Dagoretti North constituency. She was eyeing Kabiro ward in the same constituency as MCA. The ODM nominations did not go down well and I lost the Parliamentary nominations to current MP Simba Arati while she lost the County Assemblynominations to current MCA Hon Clarence Munga. She did not give up politics and was nominated in Nairobi county Assembly in 2017. It is a big blow to the people of Kabiro ward, her home County Kakamega where I have met her several times and ODM women league where she was a key member. May her soul Rest In Peace.
Hon Mellab was eyeing the Kabiro ward seat in the next general elections.
