Raila Odinga is climbing the mountain, the moutain keepers are gradually accepting his presidency. A day after successfully touring the Mt. Kenya region Raila Odinga meet politicians and businessmen from central to lobby for their support for the upcoming elections.
The region which has been at cross roads on who to support in 2022 for the last few days seem to have been coalescing towards the former Prime Minister.
Governors from the region had issued a press statement with Raila 24 hours earlier before the Safari Park hotel meeting.
“We shall plan and coordinate a structured engagement with the region focusing on elected leaders, community leaders, business leaders, farmers’ organisations, the faith organisations and key opinion leaders and shapers in the region,” they said in a joint statement.
In the statement read by Muriithi on the former Prime Minister’s two-day visits of the region, the governors said they discussed among others; expanding local economic opportunities, growth of the economy supported by sound institutions; including cushioning SMEs.
The tycoons are backing Raila’s candidature even though the region is still searching for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor.
The elite group popularly known as Mount Kenya Foundation said it had been tasked by the President to present a name of a possible candidate to take over from the President when he retires in August next year.
A source spilled the beans that the tycoons have been meeting secretly and its chair the owner of Citizen Media, had convinced them that the former Prime Minister was a better bet.
Peter Munga the former chairman of Equity Bank also endorsed Raila Odinga and is pledging to donate half a billion for his campaigns.
The group is planning for a million a plate lunch that will raise over 5 billion for Raila in January at SafariPark Hotel.
In the meantime S.K Macharia is fully sponsoring Raila Odinga campaign messaging on Radio and TV which is costing millions of shillings per day.
The tycoons are behind the massive reception and logistical planning that Raila Odinga received in central on his tour.
