GOVERNOR MIKE MBUVI SONKO: KRA LIFTS AGENCY NOTICE AGAINST THE NAIROBI CITY COUNTY GOVERNMENT.

In a series of tweets, the Nairobi county boss Mike Mbuvi Sonko said,

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has agreed to lift with immediate effect the Agency Notice against the Nairobi City County Government over a contentious 3.5 billion tax bill.

This followed a meeting I held this morning with the Commissioner for Domestic Taxes, Elizabeth Meyo, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Accounts Management, Daniel Kagira, & reps from Public Sector Division & Enforcement Division of KRA, led by Commissioner Stephen Kyande.

In return and to show goodwill, my administration committed to make an immediate payment of 242 million shillings owed in taxes and collection charges, pending a comprehensive audit and reconciliation that will be concluded in the next 10 days.

KRA commended my administration’s commitment to our tax obligations, especially the 3 billion shillings we paid last year owing to tax arrears incurred by previous administrations.

The governor finally said,

I wish to thank KRA for the good approach they have taken to resolve this matter, and assure them of my personal commitment to continue with our timely remittances going forward, as we settle the old debts we inherited.
