Kakamega county politician and 2022 aspirant for woman Mp position has decried the high rate at which school going children are getting pregnant as others turn into crime and drug abuse.

Speaking on Lubao Fm a local radio station airing in Kakamega county, she said.

“The high rate of underage children getting pregnant is at all time high, the Covid 19 pandemic has not made it even better with parents being overwhelmed in their parenting responsibilities.

Parents are finding it hard juggling between fending for their families and taking care of their children who are out of school thanks to covid 19″ Hadija said.

“Most parents had abrogated the role of parenting to teachers which ought not to be the case. The primary duty of a parent is to ensure moral uprightness of their kids” She added.

Boy child is not safe either, cases of drug abuse especially chang’aa and bhang which are easily found in Kakamega are on the rise too.

“Our young boys as young as 11years have turned into drugs and petty crime. Parents, community leaders and the local administration shoud work hand in hand and arrest the situation. On my part Iam engaging several youths and women groups to ensure we get solutions one of which is to empower women and youth who in return will help the kids by keeping them busy on farm work like chicken rearing creating no room for  juvenile deliquency hence lowering crime, drug abuse and early pregnancies” added Hadija.

As she went on air, a 14year old girl in Bungoma gave birth to tripplets at the Bungoma hospital with a 13year old boy as father.

# Hon Hadija rescues a widow thrown out of her rented home due to rent arrears.

“Yesterday I was woken up with calls to rescue a widow Nelly Nanjala with twins who was thrown out of her rental house by landlord due to rent arrears in kakamega moram area.

Together with radio ingo fans we were able to get her another house, paid three months rent, gave her money for one month shopping and gave her money to start a small business for upkeep.
I urge the landlords to try be human during this hard times of covid 19 work out a formular with their tenants on rent payment to avoid torture of especially the young ones. As well I call upon the government to ensure that no tenant is thrown out of their houses just because they have not paid their rent until we are done with corona pandemic.

Big thanks to Cyrus Akhonya reporter radio ingo, area chief shirere and radio ingo fraternity.

May God bless the work of our hands.”
