Forgery Allegations Cast Shadow Over KVF Official Moses Mbuthia in NOCK Elections.

By Larry Odanga.

NAIROBI — Moses Mbuthia, the embattled chairman of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Beach Volleyball Commission and a candidate for the position of Treasurer in the upcoming National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) elections, is facing serious allegations of document forgery.

Mbuthia, who also serves as KVF’s deputy treasurer, is accused of falsifying critical credentials, including his Teachers Service Commission (TSC) number. Sources allege that he has facilitated the production of fake documents for other NOC-K aspirants to help them meet the ethical and legal requirements outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution, which governs leadership and integrity in public office.

Amid these mounting allegations, Mbuthia’s personal life has also taken a dramatic downturn. Following a recent eviction from his residence at YMCA Shauri Moyo, he is reportedly homeless and living in his vehicle, which is regularly parked at the Nyayo National Stadium grounds. Eyewitnesses claim he changes clothes in the car and maintains a routine lifestyle despite the challenging conditions.

Concerns about his mental well-being have prompted family members to seek help from the sports fraternity. They have reportedly approached authorities for assistance in securing psychological evaluation and care for Mbuthia at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital, citing signs of possible mental health challenges.

Mbuthia’s tenure in Kenyan volleyball administration has not been without impact. He is credited with helping broker sponsorship deals from companies such as Kenchick and Savlon. However, his current association with Savlon has reportedly sparked internal friction, with some stakeholders concerned about the reputational risks involved.

Tensions within the KVF have further escalated following a recent verbal altercation between Mbuthia and senior federation officials. In a heated exchange, Mbuthia reportedly accused a top official of sexually harassing members of the national women’s team. In response, the official leveled counter-allegations, accusing Mbuthia of engaging in homosexual conduct — claims that remain unsubstantiated but have been echoed by unnamed insiders.

As the NOC-K elections draw near, the swirling controversies around Mbuthia are raising questions about the integrity of the vetting process and the credibility of aspiring sports leaders. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to scrutinize candidates’ documents closely amid increasing pressure from stakeholders to ensure a transparent and credible election.

Mbuthia has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
