Dagoretti North MP Hon. Beatrice Elachi has called on the Luhya community in Nairobi to rally behind Makadara MP Hon. George Aladwa, positioning him as the rightful political shepherd of the over 800,000-strong Luhya voting bloc in the city.
Speaking during a live interview on Mulembe FM, Hon. Elachi emphasized that with the exit of Hon. Tim Wanyonyi from Nairobi politics, Aladwa is the most experienced and suitable leader to provide direction for the Mulembe nation in the capital.
“Hon. Aladwa is a bold, seasoned leader and a tried and tested hand in Nairobi politics. As the last mayor of Nairobi, he understands the city’s political terrain and can guide our people well,” she said.
Elachi also extended her support to Hon. Wanyonyi in his political pursuits in Bungoma, stating she would join him on the campaign trail to affirm Nairobi’s endorsement.
On Corruption and Committee Politics
Addressing recent allegations of corruption in parliamentary committees, Hon. Elachi distanced herself from any involvement, noting her dewhipping from committee assignments by the ODM party.
“I don’t sit on any committee, so when people speak of money exchanging hands in those meetings, Beatrice Elachi is not part of that,” she clarified, expressing disappointment over the state of integrity in the National Assembly.
On NG-CDF and Raila Odinga’s Proposal
On the debate surrounding the return of NG-CDF management to the national government—a position supported by ODM party leader Raila Odinga—Elachi cautiously backed the move, citing the importance of implementation.
“CDF has been a lifeline for many, especially in supporting education. I’ve clustered students into secondary and university groups, all of whom benefit directly. If the government manages it well, the impact can be even greater.”
Development in Dagoretti North
Hon. Elachi took time to appreciate her constituents for their support, highlighting key development milestones achieved under her leadership:
Establishment of a standalone Dagoretti North sub-county administration.
Road improvements including Muslim-Naivasha Road, Kawangware Sokoni Road, and Salim Jump Road (70% complete).
Empowerment programs converting informal waste collectors into water vendors using handcarts supplied by her office.
“My manifesto is on course. Roads, education, and empowerment have seen real progress. Even if I left office today, the legacy stands.”
Social Media Trolls and Political Resilience
In response to persistent social media criticism, Elachi acknowledged the negativity but remained steadfast in her service.
“The bashing hasn’t broken me. It’s unfortunate that some young people spend their time trolling leaders. I pray for them and stay focused on my mandate.”
She attributed most of the online attacks to supporters of former MP Hon. Simba Arati, noting that development, not social media noise, is her true measure of success.
Ready for 2027
Looking ahead to 2027, Elachi confirmed she would defend her seat on an ODM ticket and is ready for any competition.
“Politics comes with competition and criticism—it’s part of the job. I’m prepared. The people of Dagoretti North will decide.”
She also lauded cooperation from local ODM MCAs including Hon. Swaka (Gatina), Hon. Munga (Kabiro), and Hon. Alai (Kileleshwa) for their unity and collaborative development efforts.
