Nairobi, 14th April, 2023 –
Final touches being applied on the New basketball court in Jericho which will be handed over to the County Government tomorrow, 15th April, 2023 by Hennesy at 12pm.
Oscar Igaida, the Chief Officer Sports said that the venue will provide a platform for Nairobi area youth to nurture their talent and provide an avenue to keep them busy and away from crime, drugs and unwanted pregnancy.
“This very noble initiatiave is meant to keep our youths occupied hence diverting them from deviant behabiours like drugs, crime and unwanted immoral sexual activities that breed Aids and unwanted pregnancies. This is in line with governor Sakaja”s manifesto of making Nairobi work” said Mr Igaida.
Besides the Jericho baaketball court, the Nairobi county government has laid an elaborate programme to ensure tjat all sports arenas are improved.
“As the county government of Nairobi under the leadership of Governor Sakaja, we are prepared to roll out programmes that will help nurture sports and tslent development. We are soon going to launch Kihumbuini stadium in Kangemi area of Westlandd, Joseph Kang’ethe’s Woodley stadium in Kibra among others. For Nairobi to work, all sectors must work” added Igaida.
The launch of Jericho basketball court will play jost to over 2000 youths who want to persue basketball as a profession.
