What next?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The High Court has issued temporary orders suspending the coming into force of Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 popularly referred to as the BBI Bill, pending the hearing of a case challenging the Bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means if parliament passes the Bill, the president will not be able to sign it into law until the case before the five-judge bench is heard and determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order was issued following an application filed by Thirdway Alliance lawyer Elius Mutuma who urged the court to suspend the Bill from being assented into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, a <a href=\"https:\/\/citizentv.co.ke\/news\/five-judge-bench-starts-hearing-8-cases-challenging-bbi-8495732\/\">five-judge bench began hearing eight cases<\/a> challenging the BBI Bill which have been consolidated into one case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The petitioners are questioning the BBI process to amend the Constitution terming it a dangerous move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the petitioners who made their presentation virtually, the public was completely locked out from the amendment of the country\u2019s supreme law. The anti-BBI crusaders insisted that BBI does not reflect the will of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Petitioners also questioned the manner in which the BBI bill was presented to the county assemblies saying it was hurriedly done in a choreographed script to lock out Kenyans especially those with dissenting voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, there is a sstalemate in the national assembly where JLAC committee had requested a 10 day extension for them to table their report in the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Today the president suspended National assembly sessions untill further notice sighting high covid 19 infection rate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The High Court has issued temporary orders suspending the coming into force of Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 popularly referred to as the BBI Bill, pending the hearing of a case challenging the Bill.
