Babayao has received a reprieve as Iebc gives him a green light to run for Nairobi gubernatorial seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 According to a statement from iebc, Mr. Waititu is eligible to run in the forthcoming election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs it stands, the applicant in this matter has not been convicted of any crime and has fully complied with all electoral guidelines provided when running for the aforementioned electoral position,\u201d a statement from Iebc read in part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EACC had sought to bar Waititu from running.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement last month, EACC had said all persons offering themselves as independent candidates or seeking party nominations for election must meet the integrity threshold under Chapter 6 of the Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The commission considers a person is disqualified from holding public office if the person has as been dismissed or otherwise removed from office for contravention of Chapter 6 of the Constitution or its enabling legislation, in accordance with Article 75(3) of the Constitution,” EACC said<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CEO Twalib Mbarak said a person is also disqualified if found, in accordance with any law, to have misused or abused a state office or public office or in any way to have contravened Chapter 6 as contemplated under Articles 99(2)(h) and 193(2)(g).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waititu moved to court prompting  IEBC in a gazette notice to publish Waititu’s name among those cleared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Kiigi Evans Machoka,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Lengala David William,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Hassan Jimal Ibrahim,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Dr Noah Winja,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otieno Aloys Lavern,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Mukundi Mathenge,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Munyanya Yassin,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Olingo Timothy Ayieko<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 and Njuru Phyllis Wangari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same gazette notice,  IEBC announced that Dennis Waweru, Agnes Kagure, Betty Adhiambo, Alex Kipchirchir, and Habib Omar will contest under Jubilee Party primaries scheduled on January 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It remains a wait and sees game even as some quarters within the city peddle around a narrative that the national government may settle on Madam Kananu as a substantive deputy governor and eventually a governor to avoid a looming showdown between Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke wing of Jubilee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
