Dolly Parton has mourned the passing on of Charley Pride whom she described as a great friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said on Twitter: \u201cI\u2019m so heartbroken that one of my dearest and oldest friends, Charley Pride, has passed away. It\u2019s even worse to know that he passed away from COVID-19. What a horrible, horrible virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCharley, we will always love you. Rest In Peace. My love and thoughts go out to his family and all of his fans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Born in Sledge, Mississippi, in 1934, Pride picked cotton, played baseball, worked in a smelting plant in Montana, and served in the U.S. Army before becoming country music\u2019s first black superstar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Charley Pride is remembered for several of his great hits.
Country legend Charley Pride \u2014 a pioneer for Black musicians in country music \u2014 died on Saturday in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 86 due to complications from COVID-19, a statement on his website confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With top hits including \u201cKiss an Angel Good Morning\u201d and \u201cIs Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,\u201d Pride became the first Black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000<\/p>\n\n\n\n
