Osotsi  want parliament to expedite repatriation  of all monies hidden in overseas accounts."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nominated Mp Hon Godfrey Osotsi has today the 17th November 2020 presented a petition to the national assembly seeking to have all monies stashed abroad repatriated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While presenting the petition, the Hon Member observed that Kenya is forced to beg for aid yet monies that would have been utilized here for development is sitting idle in foreign land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-0 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to www.goodmorningKenya.com outside the parliament buildings, Hon Osotsi said that his petition is driven by public interest considering that the country has borrowed heavily and the covid 19 pandemic has further dealt a blow to our economy hence his push to have the monies stashed abroad repatriated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-0 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-0 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our country is losing to a tune of 40B annually to unscrupulous businessmen and foreign entities trading in Kenya. The results of this well co-ordinated &#8216;heist&#8217; is economic meltdown with the ordinary mwananchi shouldering the blame.This must stop and the National assembly pursuant to article 10,95(2) and 201 of the 2010 constitution should help remedy the situation through the departmental committee on finance and planning and compel Asset recovery agency together with EACC and have our monies back&#8221; Hon Osotsi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<!--nextpage-->\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Transparency International fully support the petition.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Hon Osotsi received immense support from the international watchdog Ti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We commend the presentation of the aforementioned public petition to The National Assembly on<br>17th November 2020 pursuant to Articles 10, 95(2) and 201 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. The<br>petition seeks the intervention of the National Assembly, through the Departmental Committee on<br>Finance and Planning, to compel the Asset Recovery Agency and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption<br>Commission (EACC) to expedite the recovery and repatriation of stolen assets stashed in foreign bank<br>and that the bodies responsible establish clear mechanisms to ensure that the repatriated assets are appropriated accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is estimated that since 2011 Kenya has been losing an average of Ksh 40 billion every year to illicit financial flows through corruption, tax evasion and other fraudulent practices which rob the country off required resources for economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The petition comes at a time when resource mobilization is critical to meet the budgetary needs of Kenyans in the wake of adverse economic effects caused by<br>the raging Covid-19 pandemic and a huge public debt burden that continues to increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The petition has been endorsed by 40 signatories, both individuals and Civil Society Organisations,<br>all calling for expediated efforts to recover these assets and the need for a well-established mechanis for the use of the repatriated funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We therefore call upon the National Assembly to expediate the hearing of this petition and take the requisite agencies to task in stopping illicit financial flows and strengthening asset recovery efforts in order to effectively mobilise resources for Kenya&#8217;s economic growth.&#8221; A statement from TI read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next few weeks will set in motion a process to have stolen and or un explained wealth by businessmen and politocians stashed abroad repatriated.
