{"id":4881,"date":"2020-06-22T06:11:03","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T06:11:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/?p=4881"},"modified":"2020-06-22T06:19:08","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T06:19:08","slug":"simba-arati-to-vie-as-kisii-county-governor-as-elachi-shilibwa-and-wanyama-sambu-scramble-to-replace-him-in-dagoretti-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/?p=4881","title":{"rendered":"Simba Arati to vie as Kisii county governor as Elachi , Shilibwa and Wanyama Sambu scramble to replace him in Dagoretti North."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Maverick Dagoretti North MP Hon Paul&nbsp; Simba Arati\u2019s entry into Kisii county gubernatorial&nbsp; race is causing jitters from possible opponents telling him to stick to Nairobi politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arati has been traversing Kisii county conducting quiet campaigns.<br>\n He is anchoring his campaign on age, closeness to Opposition chief Raila Odinga and youth\u2019s affinity.<br>\nSo far the youthfull voters have embraced his candidature .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The youthful Arati has asked his possible opponents, Transport Chief Administrative Secretary Chris Obure and Senator Sam Ongeri, both long-serving politicians, to pave way for generational change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy governor Joash Maang\u2019i who is currently the deputy governor is perceived to be a Ruto ally is also keen to succeed Governor James Ongwae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking recently at a funeral, Obure declared that he will be in the race and should not be written off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Iam going for the governorship, those calling me old should be informed that&nbsp; Iam \u201cyoung and as fit as a fiddle\u201d. Obure said.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On his part, Hon Arati,&nbsp; has denied claims&nbsp; that Raila has prevailed upon him to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions, vowed not to be intimidated by rivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPolitical cowards are tainting my name claiming that Baba has told me to back down . I will not step down and back another aspirant because I know I will win,\u201d Hon Arati said.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hon Arati handlers a Mr&nbsp; Rogers Ongeri and Eric Onchonga, have rubbished claims&nbsp; that Arati was a Nairobi politician and should not be interested in&nbsp; an upcountry seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHon Arati is a Kenyan and can vie for any political seat anywhere in the country. Nobody has a right to limit his ambitions,\u201d Mr Onchonga said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we approach the&nbsp; next general election, several politicians and technocrats are eyeing Ongwae&#8217;s seat. <br>\nGovernor Ongwae is not eligible to run again because he is serving his second and final term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MPs Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache South) and Ezekiel Machogu (Nyaribari Masaba) have also declared interest in the seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others are Gusii Governance Civil Society Organisation Secretary Rachel Otundo, former South Mugirango MP Manson Oyongo and lawyer Lumumba Nyaberi<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>#<strong> Back in Dagoretti North Hon Elachi, Mr Shilibwa and Sam Wanyama Sambu in the race to replace Arati.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>News of Arati&#8217;s exit have excited many political players in Dagoretti North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the last elections, current Nairobi county speaker Hon Beatrice Elachi came second to Arati on Jubilee party while Anc&#8217;s\u00a0 Bernard Shilibwa came third.<br> Arati&#8217;s exit gives Elachi the seat on a silver platter should she give it a second stab on Odm party considering her close ties with Odm leader Raila.<br> A new entrant in the race Mr Sam Wanyama Sambu a city businessman is also angling to replace Simba in Dagoretti North.<br> Although Sambu&#8217;s vehicle of choice has not yet been revealed, his recent public appearance with Hon Mudavadi and Hon Wetangula in Karen&#8217;s home of the FK leader is a clear indication that he is gravitating towards Mudavadi\/Wetangula axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"308\" height=\"342\" src=\"http:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/FB_IMG_1592805932262.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4884\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/FB_IMG_1592805932262.jpg 308w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/FB_IMG_1592805932262-270x300.jpg 270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>SenWetangula with Dagoretti North politician Sam Wanyama Sambu in a past function.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My people have called on me to offer myself as a candidate for Dagoretti North seat in 2022 and I have said Yes.
