The county assembly on April 2 during a special sitting approved Sh1.025 b to Gen Badi to spend in the covid 19 war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The money, allocated under the Disaster and Emergency Fund which was Sonko’ s main hold , will be used to buy hand sanitisers, masks and other items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sonko was holding to this even as he went about fumigating the city ostensibly using “his own money” which Gen Badi has stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bill will automatically become law tomorrow, with or without Governor Mike Sonko\u2019s assent, at the expiry of a 14-day window for the county boss to act. This gives Gen Badi the power to start spending the money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Budget and Appropriation Committee Chairman Robert Mbatia said the governor has until Thursday to assent to the Bill or it will automatically become law at the expiry of the 14 days. \u201cBy law, Mr Sonko is mandated to sign the Bill in order to give NMS the authority to access the funds. However, if he does not append his signature, it becomes effective after the lapse of the 14 days,\u201d said Hon. Mbatia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 85 wards in Nairobi are set to receive , Sh85million which will go towards ward-based interventions including the purchase of hand sanitisers, masks and related items at Sh1 million for each of the 85 wards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The balance of Sh940 million will remain under the Emergency Fund for general public health interventions related to the covid 19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Sonko has had difficulties coming to terms withcthe new power arrangement in Nairobi which has reduced him to a ceremonial chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kariobangi Mca has confirmed that Gov Sonko has not appended his signiture. \u201cWhen I inquired why he had not
signed it, I was told the governor had some reservations that he intended to bring back as a memorandum to the house this week. However, we are yet to get the revised copy,\u201d he said<\/p>\n\n\n\n
