Six FKF NEC Members Skip Meeting as Hussein Insists Football Must Move Forward

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed maintains that his administration intends to press ahead with football activities, even as divisions within the National Executive Committee (NEC) continue to test the federation’s ability to make collective decisions.Speaking after a scheduled NEC meeting at Weston Hotel on Wednesday, Hussein accused a section of NEC members of frustrating the federation’s operations, insisting that Kenyan football would continue despite the latest failure to convene a meeting to address key governance and competition issues.

Only seven NEC members were present, while the other seven stayed away. The meeting came amid a protracted leadership tussle that has seen some NEC members rebel against the president and repeatedly refuse to attend committee meetings.

Hussein maintains that he has extended an olive branch to the dissenting NEC members, but they have reportedly continued to abandon their responsibilities, prolonging the leadership crisis within the federation. The immediate challenge for FKF remains finding a way to bring its divided leadership together to address outstanding matters, particularly those concerning the federation’s administration, judicial structures and league competitions. For now, Hussein has made it clear that his administration intends to press ahead with football activities, even as divisions within the NEC continue to test the federation’s ability to make collective decisions.Hussein spoke on Wednesday after the planned NEC meeting failed to proceed due to a lack of quorum, with some members staying away amid unresolved disagreements within the federation.

Reports indicate that a preliminary meeting had been convened before the scheduled NEC meeting, but the members who had been expected to attend reportedly left the venue without engaging in discussions.

While acknowledging that the leadership crisis has placed FKF in a difficult position, Hussein insists that his administration remains willing to work with all stakeholders to resolve the differences amicably and move the federation forward.Hussein has demonstrated his willingness to bridge the divisions within the NEC. Wednesday’s meeting was the fourth attempt to convene the committee through the federation’s established procedures.

He argues that the continued absence of members undermines football administration and delays decisions affecting the game. The NEC meeting was scheduled to discuss important agenda items and critical issues affecting the future of the federation and Kenyan football. The agenda included the status of the General Secretary; leagues and competitions; the FKF refereeing policy; approval of the national-team calendar; development of the FKF Technical Centre under the FIFA Forward Programme; the Annual General Meeting; audited annual accounts; the 2026/27 budgets; FKF judicial bodies; the constitutional amendment process; appointment of national-team coaches; establishment and operationalisation of ad hoc committees; and banking mandates and signing authorities.

Despite the importance of these matters and Hussein’s stated willingness to engage the entire NEC, seven members reportedly chose not to attend the meeting. To some football stakeholders, the repeated absence of NEC members raises questions about their commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to them and whether personal interests are being placed ahead of the broader interests of Kenyan football. Critics argue that repeatedly staying away from meetings risks derailing the very institution these members are mandated to serve.Every NEC member has a responsibility to participate in meetings and contribute to decisions concerning FKF in accordance with the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA statutes. However, for months, the federation has experienced persistent internal disagreements and disruptions, triggering intense public debate, competing narratives and uncertainty about the direction of football in Kenya. While disagreement and criticism are legitimate aspects of football governance, differences must be addressed through established procedures, constructive engagement and decisions guided by the best interests of Kenyan football.Hussein has consistently pursued dialogue rather than confrontation.

This latest meeting marks the fourth attempt to convene the NEC, yet some members have once again failed to attend.Following the FIFA and CAF mission, FKF convened an NEC meeting on 11 July 2026, with agenda items proposed by the dissenting members included for consideration. Since then, Hussein’s side has continued to pursue further NEC meetings through established procedures in an effort to ensure that the issues facing FKF are discussed and resolved within the federation’s proper governance structures.NEC members have both leadership responsibilities and decision-making authority.

They are entrusted with governing Kenyan football and have a duty to participate constructively in the federation’s affairs, ensuring that important decisions receive the consideration they deserve. Why, then, should some members continue to risk derailing progress when the FKF General Assembly, comprising 94 members from across Kenya, has entrusted the NEC with the mandate to lead the federation?

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed maintains that his administration intends to press ahead with football activities, even as divisions within the National Executive Committee (NEC) continue to test the federation’s ability to make collective decisions.Speaking after a scheduled NEC meeting at Weston Hotel on Wednesday, Hussein accused a section of NEC members of …

[1

post-19668","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news
["GET
