We should be looking back at the town clerks and mayors of the 70s, 80s, and 90s\u2014the people who were then mandated to run this city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they had done their jobs then, we wouldn\u2019t be where we are today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bFloods are a natural reality; they happen everywhere when the rain goes beyond the norm. It\u2019s not just Nairobi\u2014it\u2019s happening as far as Migori. But in Nairobi, everyone wants a villain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bWhat people don\u2019t want to admit is that once the rain stops, the water actually moves. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we have the &#8220;Green Army&#8221;\u2014young men and women out there in the mud, working on the drains so the water can flow as fast as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are doing the heavy lifting while we sit in traffic and complain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bNow, we have to ask ourselves a very difficult question: Do we really want the Governor to fix this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because fixing this means demolishing houses and businesses that were built on top of water and sewage lines years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It means undoing the work of people who diverted natural water flows for their own gain long before Sakaja ever took office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bWe blame him today, but if he starts the overhaul and the bulldozers come for those structures sitting on our drainage lines, will we support him?
