The inaugural\u00a0Abbas Khalif Super Cup\u00a0came to a close Saturday with trophies lifted and buses donated to the winners.
At the center of it all were\u00a0South C Rangers, who etched their name into history by winning the ultimate prize\u2014a\u00a033-seater bus\u2014after edging\u00a0State City\u00a01\u20130 in a tightly contested final.
The Abass Football Tournament was organized in memory of the late Raila Amollo Odinga. It kicked off on November 10, 2025. It brought together a total of 40 teams in an exciting display of talent and sportsmanship.
Teams from the five wards competed with great enthusiasm, making the tournament highly competitive and entertaining.
To support and motivate the participants, each team was given Sh50,000 as facilitation and provided with a full set of jerseys, ensuring uniformity and professionalism throughout the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The well-organized tournament not only promoted football development but also strengthened unity and teamwork among the participating teams.
Finals were played at the Ulinzi Complex on December 20, 2025 between South C Rangers and State City.
Thousands of Langata residents attended.
South C rangers managed a narrow 1-0 win a goal scored on the 58th minute of the match when diminutive forward\u00a0Ali Maleche\u00a0punished a lapse in State City\u2019s defense, calmly chesting down a cross before rifling a superb finish into the far corner.
The winners were awarded a 33 seater Isuzu mini bus, 1st runners up a 14 seater matatu.
While some players and officials are keen to retain the vehicles for team logistics\u2014especially for local league matches\u2014others are pushing for a more immediate reward, suggesting the vehicles be sold and the proceeds shared among team members.
State City responded with urgency, creating several chances in search of an equalizer, but profligacy in front of goal proved costly. South C Rangers, too, had opportunities to seal the match earlier, squandering two clear chances that would have put the contest beyond doubt.
Despite the narrow defeat, State City did not leave empty-handed, driving away with a\u00a014-seater vehicle\u2014the same reward earned by\u00a0Kuwinda, who thrashed\u00a0Akiba 3\u20130\u00a0in the third-place playoff.
South C Rangers\u2019 safe hands\u00a0Kevin Masongo\u00a0was named\u00a0Goalkeeper of the Tournament\u00a0after registering an impressive five clean sheets.
Final match hero\u00a0Ali Maleche\u00a0capped his standout performances by being crowned\u00a0Most Valuable Player, while\u00a0John Wambua of Kuwinda 1\u00a0walked away with the\u00a0Golden Boot\u00a0after netting seven goals.
For Maleche, the accolade is more than just a personal milestone\u2014it is a stepping stone toward a bigger dream.
As the dust settles on a thrilling first edition, the Abbas Khalif Super Cup has already delivered on its promise\u2014competitive football, emerging talent, and tangible rewards.\u00a0
Khalif who is eyeing the Langata parliamentary seat in 2027 said the tournament is meant to empower the youth.
