There was the official Head of State, Uhuru Kenyatta, the self-declared &#8216;People\u2019s President&#8217; Raila Odinga, and another bold figure rising from the grassroots \u2014 Henry Shitanda, the firebrand former President of <em>Bunge La Mwananchi<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"475\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound1169406344590460746.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound1169406344590460746.jpg 475w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound1169406344590460746-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound1169406344590460746-390x220.jpg 390w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, the youthful activist-turned-entrepreneur has shifted his political compass and is setting his sights on an even bigger stage: the Kakamega Senate seat, currently held by the combative Dr. Boni Khalwale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking exclusively to <em>GoodMorningKenyaNews.com<\/em>, Shitanda didn\u2019t mince his words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m simply responding to a higher calling from the great people of Kakamega,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving served this nation in various capacities, including as President of Bunge La Mwananchi, I believe I possess the capacity, experience, and boldness to step up as the next Senator. I\u2019ve traversed every constituency in Kakamega laying the groundwork \u2014 my competitors should start drafting their concession speeches. The only thing standing between them and defeat is time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From Streets to Boardrooms \u2014 A Man on a Mission<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Henry Shitanda\u2019s political odyssey reads like a Kenyan success thriller. From firebrand street activism to commanding the people\u2019s parliament, to now leading multi-million-shilling companies, Shitanda\u2019s rise is nothing short of extraordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound3051774540096196733.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound3051774540096196733.jpg 696w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound3051774540096196733-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s the current director of Linzi Limited, a private security firm, and Westkel Ltd, a company with interests in transport and real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI learned hard work, discipline, and resilience early in life,\u201d he reflects.<br>\u201cI\u2019ve had the privilege of engaging with great leaders of this country who mentored me. I\u2019m the kind of person who, once I set my eyes on a goal \u2014 I achieve it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>His days at <em>Bunge La Mwananchi<\/em> were marked with fire and fearless resolve. One of the most publicised standoffs of his tenure was with then-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. Shitanda publicly challenged Sonko\u2019s unilateral engagement with JamboPay \u2014 the firm contracted to collect county revenue \u2014 even going as far as writing to the EACC and the DPP to investigate. That case remains active to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why the Senate? Why Now?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Shitanda says his decision to run for Kakamega Senator is deeply rooted in his passion for safeguarding devolution \u2014 one of the pillars of Kenya\u2019s 2010 Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"475\" height=\"633\" src=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound4861471088945439424.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound4861471088945439424.jpg 475w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/inbound4861471088945439424-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDevolution is the crown jewel of our Constitution. It has brought services closer to the mwananchi. But today, it\u2019s under threat,\u201d he warns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGovernors must be held accountable. Counties must feel the real impact of devolution. As Senator, I\u2019ll ensure Kakamega doesn\u2019t just receive funds \u2014 but sees tangible value for every shilling spent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t Shitanda\u2019s first stab at elective politics. He previously vied for the Lugari parliamentary seat, where he came in third \u2014 an outcome he attributes to joining the race late and running as an independent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe came in late, but we rattled seasoned politicians.
