By Julius Anyula<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Former University of Nairobi Council Chairperson Prof Amukowa Anangwe<\/strong> has been formally cleared of all charges in a Ksh 32.4 million graft case<\/strong> after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) withdrew the case under Section 87(a) of the Criminal Procedure Code<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a brief session at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court<\/strong>, the prosecution made the surprise application to terminate the proceedings without giving any specific reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “We seek to have the case against Prof Anangwe and his co-accused persons withdrawn,” said a representative from the DPP\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n The withdrawal also covers his three co-accused \u2014 Caren Omwenga, Abdullahi Ahmed<\/strong>, and Daniel Brian Ouma<\/strong> \u2014 all of whom had been charged alongside Prof Anangwe in May 2025<\/strong> with allegations of abuse of office<\/strong> and unlawful acquisition of public property<\/strong>. The charges had been instituted by the DPP in collaboration with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Prof Anangwe, through his lawyer, immediately requested the court to facilitate the release of his passport<\/strong> and the refund of his Ksh 1 million cash bail<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWith the withdrawal of charges, we urge the court to release the passport and direct that the cash bail be refunded without delay,\u201d the lawyer submitted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n Magistrate Okore<\/strong>, presiding over the matter, granted the application and formally ordered the refund of cash bail for all four accused, bringing the high-profile prosecution to a close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The four had consistently maintained their innocence, terming the case a politically motivated witch-hunt<\/strong> and a blatant disregard for existing court orders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The conclusion of the matter now clears the path for Prof Anangwe to resume his public and academic engagements, ending months of uncertainty and legal hurdles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2014Ends\u2014<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" DPP drops Sh32m graft case against former UoN Council Chair Amukowa Anangwe, three co-accused\n
