{"id":17767,"date":"2025-07-16T19:57:30","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T19:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/?p=17767"},"modified":"2025-07-16T20:02:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T20:02:15","slug":"senator-osotsi-sounds-alarm-over-massive-underfunding-in-education-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/?p=17767","title":{"rendered":"Senator Osotsi Sounds Alarm Over Massive Underfunding in Education Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>By Our Parliamentary Affairs Correspondent<\/em> team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nairobi, Kenya \u2014<\/strong> Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has raised the red flag over what he terms as a dangerous and deepening crisis in the country\u2019s education sector, blaming chronic underfunding for the alarming decline in learning standards across public institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citing the latest report by the Auditor General, Senator Osotsi revealed that public schools were underfunded by a staggering <strong>Sh117 billion<\/strong> over a four-year period \u2014 a shortfall he warns could cripple the country\u2019s future workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAt this rate, our education system is on life support \u2014 and the facts are deeply alarming,\u201d Osotsi said in a strongly worded statement.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the breakdown, <strong>secondary schools missed out on Sh71 billion<\/strong>, <strong>junior secondary schools Sh31 billion<\/strong>, while <strong>primary schools were shortchanged by Sh14 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese figures expose the depth of a crisis that is stifling institutions designed to empower the next generation,\u201d Osotsi lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senator urged both the <strong>Ministry of Education<\/strong> and the <strong>National Treasury<\/strong> to urgently take responsibility for the funding gaps and roll out an immediate and transparent recovery plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEducation is a right, not a privilege.
