At the recent launch of <em>Changing Lives \u2013 Powered by Bangbet<\/em>, held at Lord Erroll Gardens in Runda, Bangbet Kenya unveiled a corporate social responsibility (CSR) model with potential for nationwide rollout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative introduced two key programs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Bangbet Hospital Support Fund<\/strong>, starting with a Ksh 1 million donation to St. Mary\u2019s Hospital to help release patients detained over unpaid medical bills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Friends of Bangbet Empowerment Drive<\/strong>, which provided select individuals with economic support items such as motorcycles, televisions, and household appliances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bangbet Kenya CEO David Gichuchi said the interventions were designed for national relevance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis is not a one-city effort. It\u2019s a vision for equitable impact,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re walking with Kenyans \u2014 from Isiolo to Kisii, from Mombasa to Turkana. Every region has stories of need and stories of resilience. We want to be present for both.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The CSR approach is structured, adaptable, and non-promotional \u2014 designed to work in partnership with county governments, health institutions, and grassroots organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBangbet has started in Nairobi, but this approach is scalable \u2014 especially if the same level of discipline and integrity is maintained,\u201d noted a representative from a national health NGO.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Healthcare leaders echoed this sentiment.<br>Sister Dr. Rose Nafula, CEO of St. Mary\u2019s Hospital, said the fund would ease pressure on faith-based hospitals that often hold patients due to non-payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis model could offer tremendous support in regions where access to NHIF or insurance is limited.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Regulators have also taken note.<br>Rev. Dr. Jane Mwikali Makau, Chairperson of the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB), praised the initiative for adhering to ethical CSR standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis noble act is a shining example of the kind of impact we expect and encourage from all licensed operators.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, the launch event was free of any betting-related advertising or promotions \u2014 a move that drew praise from both regulators and community observers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The individuals supported through the empowerment drive were selected based on prior community engagement, with Bangbet stating that their stories reflect the resilience of everyday Kenyans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThey are farmers, riders, mothers, hustlers \u2014 all trying to move forward,\u201d said Gichuchi. \u201cWe\u2019re not just giving items \u2014 we\u2019re giving them the tools to take their next step.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, Bangbet plans to expand the hospital fund to at least two more counties by the end of 2025 and is exploring partnerships with local youth groups, civil society networks, and health institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDevolution allows us to localize our impact,\u201d Gichuchi added. \u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re taking a region-by-region approach.
