After a short spell with <strong>MOTCom FC<\/strong>, he joined his childhood club, <strong>AFC Leopards<\/strong>, in 1980 \u2014 a move that would define both his career and an era of dominance in Kenyan football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though small in frame, Shilasi was a giant on the pitch \u2014 known for his fierce tackling, relentless energy, and unshakable commitment. He embodied the true spirit of Ingwe football: hard, honest, and fearless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Off the pitch, Shilasi was an accomplished accountant \u2014 sharp, principled, and respected in professional circles. His brilliance across two distinct fields made him a unique figure, especially among the <strong>Abaluhya community<\/strong>, where he was not only admired, but deeply cherished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He earned the nickname <strong>\u201cOmar Bongo\u201d<\/strong> due to his physical resemblance to the late Gabonese president, and his name became synonymous with grit and determination on the pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A product of the famed <strong>Kakamega High School football program<\/strong> under the legendary <strong>Chris Makokha<\/strong>, Shilasi was scouted alongside Pius Masinza at the end of the 1980 season. Shilasi was also in the squad that wore the iconic <strong>blue and white \u201cRio Tinto\u201d kit<\/strong> during a historic victory over Zimbabwe in Harare in 1982, a match that saw <strong>Tony Lidonde<\/strong> score the decisive goal and earn the nickname <em>\u201cMkombozi.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shilasi\u2019s career unfolded alongside fellow stalwarts such as <strong>Francis Kadenge<\/strong>, <strong>Peter Lichungu<\/strong>, <strong>Shadrach Oyando<\/strong>, <strong>Demo Okumu<\/strong>, <strong>Patrick Shim<\/strong>, <strong>Omar Shaban<\/strong>, <strong>Francis Luvembe<\/strong>, <strong>Mike Amwayi<\/strong>, and <strong>Dan Musuku<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the requiem mass, <strong>AFC Leopards Chairman Dr. Dan Shikanda<\/strong> mourned the loss of a true icon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/inbound7275011389410756724-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/inbound7275011389410756724-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/inbound7275011389410756724-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/inbound7275011389410756724-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/goodmorningkenya.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/inbound7275011389410756724.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cPatrick was a lion \u2014 in life, in the locker room, and on the pitch. He was fierce on the field and a gentleman off it. His impact will be felt for generations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Club Secretary General aspirant <strong>Robert Situma<\/strong> used the moment to call for structural change in the way legends are honored:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cIt is disheartening how we treat our heroes. Under my leadership, I will establish a proper Hall of Fame \u2014 a sanctuary of remembrance and respect for those who built this club.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Khayota<\/strong>, Chairman of the Ingwe Former Players Association, issued a heartfelt plea:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe brought honor and pride to this club, but feel abandoned.
