Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has today weighed in on the Azimio La Umoja –OKA running mate debacle demanding that Former Vice President Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has to be the next Deputy President of Kenya or the Azimio Presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga flops again in his state house bid.
Speaking when he joined Kalonzo in leading the Azimio la Umoja –OKA campaigns in lower Eastern region for Machakos county Wiper governor candidate Wavinya Ndeti , Sonko sensationally warned that Raila Odinga will lose the August 9th, 2022 presidential contest to William Ruto if he doesn’t pick Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate.
Further, Sonko firmly said that no vetting should be done on the former vice president to determine his suitability as Raila’s running mate and said that Kalonzo will not be involved in the vetting process that is being conducted by the Noah Wekesa led seven person committee.
“Kalonzo has been vice president for the late former President Mwai Kibaki and as Wavinya Ndeti has said, Kalonzo has been Raila’s running mate in two elections, which other interview do you want? You cannot subject him to a humiliating vetting process and I want to tell you today that if you want Raila not to be the President, try and deny Kalonzo the positionof Deputy President,” Sonko said.
Sonko warned that putting the former Vice President through the vetting process by a team of professionals put together to identify Odinga’s most suitable running mate was a humiliation noting that Kalonzo is the most suitable candidate and has to be the second to Raila.
“We are demanding that Kalonzo is respected. Kalonzo has done a lot for this country and he needs to be respected. Let those interviews be concluded today and by midnight, Raila should announce Kalonzo as his running mate,” Sonko said.
The Former Nairobi governor is tomorrow expected to launch his gubernatorial bid for Mombasa County in the coastal city where he will run on a wiper ticket against ODM’s Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir.
