US$5,000 reward for arrest of culprits who fed dogs to crocodiles!

Donald Tapia, who is the United States Ambassador to Jamaica is offering a US$5,000 ($630,000.00 JMD) reward for anyone with information which could lead to the arrest and conviction of the men who fed a dog to a crocodile in St Catherine.

  • He said, the reward was being offered in conjunction with the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

This comes after public outrage last week as a video of the incident circulated on social media.

Jamaica’s National Environment and Planning Agency condemned the actions by the people who carried out this act at the Greater Portmore Sewage plant in St Catherine.

NEPA said, feeding crocodiles with dogs could be dangerous as these reptiles will start to associate humans with being fed and could condition the crocodiles hunt larger prey.

The agency has urged the public to desist from entering the area, noting that anyone found guilty of baiting the crocodiles will be charged under the Wildlife Protection Act.
