Gatina Ward MCA Hon Kennedy Swaka has strongly condemned former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala over his recent verbal attacks against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Makadara MP Hon George Aladwa, and Dagoretti North MP Hon Beatrice Elachi. Swaka now joins a growing list of Nairobi leaders calling out Malala for what they term as divisive and tribal politics.
In a fiery press briefing held in Nairobi, MCA Swaka demanded an unequivocal apology from Malala, whom he accused of peddling falsehoods and attempting to sabotage the growing unity among Luhya leaders in the capital.
“We are giving the former senator of Kakamega, who is currently masquerading as the DCP deputy party leader, a seven-day ultimatum to tender an apology to our able leaders Hon Aladwa, Hon Elachi, and our city governor Hon Johnson Sakaja. We will not allow him to sow seeds of discord in Nairobi,” said Swaka.
Swaka described Malala as a “political gun for hire,” whose latest utterances were not only reckless but designed to destabilize the newfound cohesion among Luhya leaders in Nairobi. He further accused Malala of echoing the “shareholding” style of politics associated with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which he claims is rooted in tribalism and exclusion.
“We all know Malala’s master—the high priest of tribalism—thrives on dividing the country with this shareholding narrative. But with the coming together of Hon Raila Odinga and President William Ruto, there is a renewed sense of national unity. This clearly unsettles characters like Malala and his paymasters,” the Gatina MCA stated.
Swaka warned that Nairobi leaders will not sit back and allow what he called “Gachagua’s absurd tribal formula” to infiltrate city politics. He praised the current working relationship between President Ruto and Raila Odinga, saying it has brought much-needed calm in previously volatile areas, including Dagoretti North and Gatina Ward.
In a sharp rebuke, Swaka also slammed Malala for making unfounded allegations against Governor Sakaja, emphasizing that the city governor has worked tirelessly to unite Nairobi and deserves respect from all quarters.
“Cleophas Malala must stop playing the tribal tag game. His wild claims against Governor Sakaja, Hon Aladwa, and Hon Elachi are not only false—they’re dangerous. We are warning him: retract your statements and apologize immediately,” Swaka added.
As pressure mounts on Malala, political watchers will be keen to see how he responds to the growing backlash from Nairobi’s leadership.
