The absence of National assembly speaker Justin Muturi in the chambers worries MPs.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi became a subject of debate today in the national assembly when members demanded to know his whereabouts.

As Mps met to debate the approval of Martha Koome as the next chief Justice, the loud absence of the Speaker of the national assembly was brought to the attention of the house by Tiaty Mp William Kamket.

Deputy Speaker Hon Cheboi was pressed by Tiaty MP William Kamket during the sitting to reveal specifics of Speaker Muturi’s whereabouts.

“I’m worried about our speaker’s whereabouts, Mr Speaker,” the MP said. “We’ve been reading online that the Speaker is under some kind of spell somewhere.” “How safe is our speaker?”

Kamket quiped amid laughter from members.

The deputy speaker beaming with his usual smile refused to gave any clearest hint on the whereabouts of the speaker but assured the house that the speaker was well.

“The speaker has several other responsibilities, and today he is attending to one of them,” National Assembly deputy speaker Moses Cheboi responded

Speaker Muturi is currently being prepared to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt. Kenya region kingpin. According to insiders familiar with his unusual sabbatical, the speaker is undergoing some rituals which demand that he keep off some of his duties at the national assembly.

Muturi, the spokesman for Mt Kenya East (Embu, Meru, and Tharaka), is seen as a frontrunner to succeed President Kenyatta, whose term ends in 2022.

The speaker, according to sources, has retired to his private residence, where he will be subjected to a strict cultural regimen for the next seven days.

No sex and alcohol for 7 days…

He will be expected to consume only certain foods, bathe in a certain way, and refrain from coitus during this period.

Muturi was crowned as the region’s spokesperson in March this year at Njuri Ncheke shrine in Nchiru, Meru County, before a caucus of elders from Embu, Kikuyu, and Meru.

Former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru are among those who have their eyes on country’s top job.

Two allies of Deputy President William Ruto- Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri will also be seeking mandate in 2022.

The two have already registered their political outfits: Kuria through his People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) and Kiunjuri through The Service Party (TSP).
